HIGHLAND MEDIA is a family-owned business partnership run by GS & RB CAMPBELL which was born out of magazine publishing in 1986. We currently run a vibrant MUSIC and TEXT BOOK publishing firm, DUNTROON PUBLISHING, (see our internal links on the left) as well as an expanding digital magazine publishing section of our small firm and our tutorial service, THE PIPING SCHOOL, and a monthly magazine PIPING WORLD which has a global readership well in excess of 23,000. The final cog in our business structure is a small recording wing, ARGYLL MUSIC.
DUNTROON PUBLISHING’S best selling print book is ‘The MacCrimmon Pipers of Skye: A Tradition Under Siege’ although others such as ‘The Royal Pipers’ and ‘The Piping Legends of the MacCrimmons of Skye’ have also notched up higher than expected sales.
In addition to other text books we currently have 12 pipe music books in print including the DAVID GLEN PIOBAIREACHD COLLECTION (3 volumes to date), the DUNTROON COLLECTION of HIGHLAND PIPE MUSIC (also 3 volumes and another due in early summer), the highly rated COLLECTED WORKS OF JOHN McLELLAN, DUNOON and the HOLYROOD COLLECTION (3 volumes) plus the new CD ROM E-BOOK products SGOIL nam PIOBAIRE BOOK 1, LEARN TO PLAY THE BAGPIPE, LET’S LEARN TO PLAY PIOBAIREACHD and MY KING HAS LANDED IN MOIDART: PIPERS OF THE FORTY FIVE - all with musical illustrations and some available digitally.
PIPING WORLD was re-launched in March 2009 as a totally digital version. Since it’s re-launch it has always had high readership figures and in March 2010 that stood at some 24,200 from every corner of the piping globe.
PIPING NEWS is an interim news service which bridges the gap between the monthly issues of PIPING WORLD and is available through a link on this page.
THE PIPING SCHOOL organises piping workshops/seminars and supporting recitals and also has a range of tuition products available (with more to come) while our small recording label ARGYLL MUSIC has been growing over the last year - (22 years after we produced our first commercially recorded piping album). The latest major release is the first of the CDs in the BINNEAS IS BORERAIG series, archival Piobaireachd recordings of Malcolm Ross MacPherson.
