BRUCE CAMPBELL owns and operates his own professional piping
business offering a range of services throughout the UK and
abroad, including performing solo, with a band or with
professional Highland Dancers (the Edinburgh-based Scottish
Highland Dance Company), teaching (workshops, skype or
individual) or giving lectures or demonstrations.
He is recognised as one of the world’s foremost authorities on
piping and as such has an international reputation. Because of
that he is heavily in demand and advance bookings are essential.
Hello, welcome to my web site. Today, as I did when I joined the Royal
Scots Dragoon Guards in 1971 as a young piper, I make my living entirely
from piping. That sees an exciting mixture of playing at private,
public and corporate events, competing in professional piping
competitions, playing for dancing around the Highland Games
and indoor circuits in Scotland and England, teaching and
lecturing on pipes at all levels as well as writing on piping for piping
magazines, the mainstream press and our own magazine, PIPING WORLD

BOOKING A PIPER FOR YOUR SPECIAL OCCASION
It is very important to ensure that the piper you use for your special occasion has both the talent and experience to do the job to your satisfaction. There are a lot of pipers around the world advertising themselves as ‘professional pipers’. But all too often they do not have the necessary credentials. Don’t be afraid to ask about your piper’s background, qualifications or experience - and above all, do the extra yard to get a recommendation. A professional piper is one who has attained the highest levels possible - not just somebody who plays for a few quid.
I have attempted to bring the right mixture of experience I have gained from a lifetime in piping at the highest level to provide this service. Over the years I have played in top flight bands, taught bands, judged, written about piping, lectured on piping, taught beginners and advanced pipers, played at Highland Games for dancing and also competed in professional solo piping events. I still compete occasionally in solo competition as a means of keeping a sharp edge on my playing and I try to play at a few Highland Games every year. Since 2003 I have won prizes at solo piping events in Scotland and England and from 1983 until 2001 was a regular prize winner in top competition in Australia.
If you wish to discuss any aspect of my playing or service, I am happy to make that time available. I can also provide a dvd of my playing on request and there are mp3 files of studio recorded sessions on this web site. Additionally, my three current Cds are all available from most quality Scottish retailers or on-line web businesses
such as Music In Scotland - ‘Complete Highland Dancing Archive’, ‘Music of the MacCrimmons’ and ‘Amazing Grace - stately music for the Highland Bagpipe’.
My repertoire, which over the years has been developed to some 1,000 plus tunes contains a mixture of traditional Marches, Airs, Jigs, Reels, Strathspeys and Hornpipes as well as Piobaireachd, the classical music of the pipes. I also maintain a specialised repertoire of Highland and Country dance tunes. My repertoire does NOT include ‘sectarian or ‘party’ tunes’, and instead I like to maintain my musical integrity by playing tunes from the
traditional genre of Highland pipe music, although that does not include any tunes which have become popular ‘on the street’.
