SPRING PIPING WORKSHOP
BIRKENHEAD - 27/ 28 MARCH 2010
(sponsored by Wallace Bagpipes)
WORKSHOP BOOKINGS CLOSE 17 MARCH 2010
A 2-day workshop aimed at pipers wishing to improve their own personal performance levels, instrument sound and musicianship. Note that each day is an independent workshop and pipers may come to either or both as they wish. It is intended to limit each day to a maximum of SIX pipers - and the event will go ahead even if only 1 piper registers.
Each is split into several independent, yet connecting, modules. Instruction is given by Bruce Campbell by way of explanation and then demonstration on a practice chanter and also playing of studio recordings. Discussion completes each module. Each workshop is a 7-hour program with a break for lunch.
During the day demonstration on pipes is also given and a session at the end of the day going through tunes in concert - for a not-critical audience of fellow students!
There is no set ‘standard’ for those who attend this workshop - it is entirely up to you although the more experienced a piper is then the more he/she will gain. This is NOT a basic workshop for practice ‘chanter only’ pipers although you are more than welcome to attend regardless of your standard.
The method of teaching is to ‘build’ knowledge through a tune - so as the phrases of each tune are demonstrated, played and discussed then all aspects will also be dealt with including technique.
The CEOL BEAG component (DAY 1) is a vital prerequisite for anyone wishing to develop their playing/performance to a higher standard while the PIOBAIREACHD component (DAY 2) is designed to blow away the cobwebs which surround this great genre of pipe music. Piobaireachd is ‘just another form of pipe music’ yet many pipers miss out because they are intimidated by the ‘elitism’ supposedly attached to it’s playing.
A full instructional CD ROM is given to all students as well as staff notation and a certificate of course attendance.
Combine 6 months of professional level lessons in one fabulous weekend - and have some fun too!
