“For some the Highland pipe is a serious instrument, to be played with skill and care and to consume a lifetime in its study ... but to me, it’s even more important than that - it is life itself.”
Bruce Campbell with acknowledgement to the late, great Bill Shankly

Vale: Gordon Henderson
Added 27 December 2011

CANBERRA, Australia piping personality Gordon Henderson passed away in his adopted town on Christmas Eve after ailing for some time previously.
Gordon was a long-time stalwart of the local scene having originally migrated to Australia with his wife Val, also a piper, from New Zealand in the 1950s.
Both were prominent members of the City of Queanbeyan Pipe Band when I was pipe major for a brief spell in 1998.
Gordon delighted in every aspect of the history and traditions of piping, particularly Piobaireachd.
I enjoyed many happy times in Gordon and Val’s company just chatting about piping in general and Piobaireachd in particular.
When I found myself sitting around the practice table at the Queanbeyan Pipe Band I was impressed with the huge number of traditional 6/8 Marches they played - all down to Gordon’s influence.
Gordon’s daughter Kathy is also a fine piper.
