NO GAMES AT FALKIRK (added Monday January 7)
There will be no Falkirk Wheel Highland Games this year reports organiser Hamish Davidson.
Last year’s event could well have been a one-off although the former Heavy athlete has added that other events are in the pipeline.

HELENSBURGH ADDS PIPING AT NEW GAMES (added 12 December 2007)
The Helensburgh & Lomond Highland Games will be a new addition to the 2008 Scottish Highland Games circuit.
“It will be the first Highland Games to be held in Helensburgh for over 30 years,” Iain McQuire, secretary of the HLG, told HIGHLAND MEDIA.
“The HLG Games will be held on Saturday, June 21 at Helensburgh Rugby Club, Rhu Road, Higher Helensburgh.”
More details will be announced later.

ARISAIG AND INVERARAY AMONG MAJOR HIGHLAND GAMES CHANGES FOR 2008 (added 5 December 2007)
The change in the summer calendar, combined with changes to the traditional dates for the Glasgow Fair fortnight, are having a major impact with the 2008 Highland Games calendar.
News is starting to come into www.scotlandshighlandgames.co.uk of a number of changes.
“Arisaig Games in 2008 will be on 30th July,” says Games official Elizabeth MacDonald.
“The reason is that this year the Glasgow Fair fortnight extends into August, which happens once in eleven years, and the end of the Fair fortnight will be on August 2nd.”
Arisaig lays claim to one of the most beautiful sites in the world, looking on to the famous White Sands of Morar.
Other Games dates affected by the ‘shift’ of the Fair include Rosneath, Inveraray, North Uist, South Uist and Luss.
One prominent pipe band event which has shifted following the moving of the World Pipe Band Championships into the third weekend of August is North Berwick which is held the Saturday before the Worlds - and changes because August is a five weekend month in 2008.
Another major change, but unaffected this time by the calendar, is Thornton which shifts from early July to Sunday 24 August.

2008 SCOTTISH HIGHLAND GAMES DATES LIST CHANGES (added 21 November 2007)
The first draft of Scottish Highland Games dates for 2008 has just been posted on www.scotlandshighlandgames.co.uk
Although confirmation is still being awaited from some of the events, there are a few interesting changes already. Because August next year is a five-week month it means that Cowal Highland Games will not clash with the week of the Argyllshire Gathering.
A change of date also affects Glenisla Highland Games which will next year be held on the fourth Friday of the month.

Highland dancing at a
competitive level?
The Scottish Official
Highland Dancing
Association is the oldest

An expression of interest is sought from established dance pipers and those who would like to extend their piping into this exciting and demanding area.
Playing is at indoor contests throughout the non-summer months and at Highland Games in the summer.
A fee and travel expenses are paid and there is also the possibility of some extra paid private work.
Interested pipers should contact Bruce Campbell by email highlandmedia@hotmail.com stating your contact details, level of ability and any experience.
